MEET THE POLYPHONISTS

Amy Broadbent • soprano

“With consummate poise, limpid clarity, and faultless intonation” (Washington Classical Review), soprano Amy Nicole Broadbent has garnered recognition as a dynamic and versatile musical force. She is a sought-after interpreter of works by Bach, Handel, and their contemporaries, as well as 20th century composers such as Barber and Stravinsky. Amy has performed as a soloist for the Washington National Cathedral, Washington Bach Consort, Oregon Bach Festival, the Thirteen, Folger Consort, Reading Choral Society, Washington Master Chorale, and New Dominion Chorale. Amy’s compositions and arrangements have been performed at the White House, Washington National Cathedral, and Basilica of the National Shrine, and broadcast nationally. As assistant conductor for the Victorian Lyric Opera Company, her conducting was hailed as “stellar… a balletic piece of choreography” (Ruby Griffith Award). She is the Assistant Conductor of the U.S. Navy Band Sea Chanters, the official chorus of the U.S. Navy. Sylvia Leith • mezzo-soprano

Praised for her “plangent mezzo-soprano” (Washington Classical Review), Sylvia Leith is a soloist and consort singer whose repertoire spans the medieval to the contemporary. Her recent solo appearances include Messiah with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Duruflé’s Requiem and Mahler’s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen with Emmanuel Music in Baltimore, Helena in A Fairy Queen with the IN Series, and Elgar’s Sea Pictures with Washington Young Sinfonia. Her operatic roles run the gamut from Nerone in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea to Nancy in Britten’s Albert Herring. Sylvia is a founding member of the Polyphonists and the Uncommon Music Festival, and her ensemble credits include Washington Bach Consort, Bach Akademie Charlotte, the Oregon Bach Festival Chorus, True Concord, the Thirteen, Ensemble Altera, Cathedra, and Bridge. Matthew Hill • tenor

Praised for "clarion high notes placed with unfailing precision," (Washington Classical Review) tenor Matthew Hill is a versatile performer who excels in opera, oratorio, art song, and musical theatre. Highly regarded for his interpretations of Bach, Matthew’s Evangelist was lauded by the Washington Post for “deliver[ing] the Gospel texts with agile conviction.” Matthew has performed as a soloist with Washington National Opera, Wolf Trap Opera, Opera Saratoga, and Ohio Light Opera, the American Bach Soloists, the Washington Bach Consort, and the Washington National Cathedral Choirs. Matthew is also a member of the United States Air Force Band Singing Sergeants. Recently, Matthew was awarded first place at both the National Association of Teachers of Singing Artist Awards Competition, and the Bethlehem Bach Young American Singers Competition. Edmund Milly • bass-baritone

Bass-baritone Edmund Milly is sought after for his “perfect diction” (Los Angeles Times), distinctive “delicacy and personal warmth” (Boston Classical Review), and “rich and resonant” sound (KC Metropolis). Increasingly in demand as a soloist, he has recently performed with the Folger Consort, BaRock Band, Bach Akademie Charlotte, Spire Chamber Ensemble, the Oregon Bach Festival, and the American Classical Orchestra, and has also been heard internationally on BBC and CBC. Equally devoted to ensemble singing at the highest level, Edmund can be heard on GRAMMY-nominated recordings with the Choir of Trinity Wall Street and Clarion Choir, and is a founding member of the Polyphonists. Performance highlights include solos at the White House, performances with Madonna at the Met Gala and with 50 Cent at Radio City, and a staged production with the Mark Morris Dance Group.
